Meet the 31-year-old cat who still has many lives to live – The Oldest Cat

The tabby kitty celebrates his 31st birthday (equivalent to 141 years in human years). Nutmeg chose his humans 26 years ago by showing up in their backyard.

Nutmeg’s humans told The Mirror that he “rules the house and is absolutely gorgeous.”

It was Liz and Ian Finlay who took the stray cat in as a stray back in 1990. Nutmeg’s abscess on the neck was treated by Cats Protection, which told the owners that the cat had to be at least five years old.

Nutmeg is without a doubt the oldest cat in the world, but the owners have to show documents showing his age to qualify for Guinness Records – and that isn’t very easy, though they are working on it.

Nutmeg suffered a stroke last year but is now going strong, making those around wonder just how long he has left.

“He never lets us forget that we’re his humans, and maybe that’s the key to his long and happy life.”

It was taken in by the Finlays as a stray back in 1990.

Finlay took the kitten in as a stray in 1990, and she befriended their cat named Spice.

However, The Finlays must submit official documents in order to apply for the Guinness World Record

The Finlays adore Nutmeg despite the fact that he is a very senior cat indeed.

Nutmeg comes in each morning at 5 a.m. to be fed. He is spoilt rotten.

Nutmeg had a stroke just last year, but he is thankfully back on his feet again now…

… Making Finlay’s wonder: how many lives does this cat have?
